The Nucleus: a critical part of the cell and the keeper of genetic material. Sounds great, right? But with all of this power, comes responsibility. What happens if DNA replication goes wrong? You guessed it. The entire cell is doomed. The Salk Institute of Biological Studies found that dysfunction in the nucleus can contribute to major issues in the human body, including leukemia and heart disease. Does an organelle with so much opportunity for failure sound like a suitable candidate?
